What is a 2D Matrix?
Use of 2D matrix is gaining a lot more popularity. When it comes to reading data, a lot of people are used to barcodes. However 2D Matrix provides much more information than a bar code. When a portable scanner reads 2D matrix, it is able to retrieve up to 2,335 alphanumeric characters. That is a lot of data. For example 2D Matrix can contain manufacturing date, serial number, part number, control number, and even the Run number. In addition to 2D matrix ability to store more data, error checking and correction algorithms allow readability of data even when matrix is damaged or scratched. 2D matrix is also very scalable. It could be as small as 300 micrometers and as large as 3 feet. This next video is going to show you how our custom laser marking system prints 2D Matrix on the PCB.
